In 1928 in New York City a group of fashion minded ladies got together for lunch. Included in the group were Edna Woolman Chase, Elizabeth Arden, Helena Rubinstein, Eleanor Roosevelt, Margaret Case, Julia Coburn, Lilly Dache, Jessica Daves, Nan Duskin, Edith Head, Eleanor LeMaire, Claire McCardell, Clare Potter, Virginia Pope, Dorothy Shaver, Adele Simpson, Carmel Snow and, Miss Tobe.
By 1930 The Fashion Group was formed as a true business entity. Louis Fairchild donated space in his Women's Wear Daily Building where they stayed until Harper's Bazaar donated a new space on Madison Avenue. By 1934 they were moving to 30 Rockefeller Center partially funded by The Fashion Follies, a humerous look at the world of fashion presented at a Fashion Group Party.
Wildly successful, Fashion Group is now Fashion Group International and accepts male and female members. It boasts branches and members from around the world. Today's board members include the likes of Diane Von Fustenberg, Eveleyn Lauder, Margaret Hayes and Donald J. Loftus, to name a few.
