We visited the Claddagh Irish Pub at Legacy Village early on a weeknight evening. Legacy Village has quite a few restaurants and they are all fun to try.
We chose Claddagh's on this evening because we heard so much about the Irish Pub atmosphere and the Fish n' Chips dinner.
The Pub is authentic looking with Irish memorabilia and paraphernalia throughout. The tables are heavy wood and the chairs are quite comfortable. There are lots of nooks and crannies and private seating areas.
Tip: If you are going to the Claddagh to have a nice evening of conversation you have made the wrong choice. It was very difficult to carry on a conversation above the noise and "people sounds." However, the atmosphere is fun, so if you are going to enjoy the evening and the food rather than the quiet, this is a great spot.
I tried the Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner which came with either soup or salad. The soup of the day was Duck Curry.
Since I was going to have a large dinner I wasn't counting on the soup to fill me up, so I decided to try it. It had a very unique taste that I truly enjoyed. Sadly, they're planning on taking it off the menu for the rest of the summer, but when it comes back be sure to try it.
The Corned Beef and Cabbage had an interesting spice that I was not able to identify. I enjoyed it. One of my dining companions did not. The Corned Beef and cabbage was $11.95 and there was quite a bit of food.
The famous Fish n' Chips is a full pound of Bass Ale breaded Cod, but a half order is also available.
Tip: Go for the half order. The fish is excellent and the half order is more than enough for one person. At $8.95 for the half order you can't go wrong. (Full order is $15.95)
Another of my dining companions tried the Irish Stew at $12.95. The hearty stew has Guinness added to the gravy to insure that extra bit of flavor.
Being an "Irish Pub" there was a complete selection of Irish and other beverages including a house Red beer.
The Claddagh serves a nice selection of desserts and we decided to sample a few and share them. The Bailey's and Cream Cheese Crepe was fantastic and the berries served with it were a nice touch. The Whiskey soaked Bread Pudding was out of this world and the Creme Brulee was "to die for."
The hardest part was deciding which was a favorite and all were certainly large enough to share. Most of the desserts were $4.95.
Tip: The staff knows that people have a hard time choosing from these luscious desserts and are very accommodating in bringing extra plates and silverware for sharing. So sample a few with your companions.
They also allow for separate checks without a fuss.
One of our guests said, "Of all the Irish restaurants in the area I feel the food there is the best. It is the one I'd take my guests to if looking for an Irish restaurant."
