Charlotte's Web

Julia Roberts heads a big name voice cast in this charming, live action adaptation of the classic E.B. Whiting story about the friendship between Wilbur, a pig, and Charlotte, a spider.

A bit of humor enlivens the proceedings, which also explores such worthy subjects of morality, the meaning of friendship and the importance of tolerance.

A fine family film. Very enjoyable.

The Good Shepherd

An enticing topic, the secret history of the CIA and an excellent cast (Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, Alec Baldwin) offer the promise of top-flight entertainment.

But this lengthy drama includes so many characters that you lose interest in most of them. It is confusing at times but very suspenseful in its cold war cat and mouse intrigue and features some great performances.

I enjoyed it but kept shifting my body in my seat for this very lengthy performance.

Night at the Museum

Young kids will find some laughs in this loud, dopey tale of Ben Stiller in desperate need of a job and ends up as a night watchman in the History Museum. It deals with exhibits coming "alive" while he is in duty.

The special effects are the stars of the film. It was good to see old film actors like Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Steve Coogan, Ricky Gervais and Robin Williams.

His son is loosing faith in his dad (Ben Stiller) and wants so much to believe in him. I enjoyed this film but it did seem a bit too long.

The Pursuit of Happyness

Based on a true story, this is an inspirational film with a terrific performance by Will Smith. This drama chronicles the real life struggles of Chad Gardner, a down and out salesman who battles homelessness with a five year old son while landing an internship (no pay while learning) at an investment firm.

The young boy in the film is Smith's real life son, Jaden. "Pursuit" may not be a classic but Will Smith does his character justice. I enjoyed this film but at times I was getting depressed at all the avenues he was trying and was turned down.

I know this happens in real life - but just think of all the people in the world looking for jobs and to make a life.
