Decorating a Boat

Q. Honestly, I am decorating a boat. The problem is the port holes!

The front cabin has a queen size bed with Ralph Lauren white spread called Summer - nautical matelasse. The port holes must be covered for privacy at the dock. Seems to be three options.

One is a window shade that hangs at the ceiling and pulls down and snaps in place. White vinyl but effective.

Option two would be Roman shades hung from the ceiling. The rest of the windows are covered with the white cellular shades.

The third option is a thingy that sticks to the glass and covers the glass only. It would be made of Sunbrella in any color. So when in place the port is still obviously a port.

Which ever option, do you think I should try to blend with the teak walls are be white and stand out from the walls?

A. I own a powerboat and have designed 6 other boats both power and sail.

I have found that all small windows function and appear best using a Roman shade. Installation varies but I would avoid a "sticky" tape or velcro because of heat in the cabins.

In your case, for color choice I would chose white but add trim to coordinate with accent colors used in the state room.

Bamboo or jute rope work well for accents at the top of the shade or a bar at the bottom edge. Boats are fun but challenging.
